Study on the application of lanthanum chloride in coagulation and phosphorus removal
Lanthanum is a Rare Earth metal element widely distributed in nature. Many researchers use lanthanum and its composite materials to enhance the removal of phosphate in water bodies. This is because lanthanum shows a specific affinity for phosphate and has a very high removal rate even for low concentrations of phosphate, making it suitable for the treatment of eutrophic water bodies. At the same time, lanthanum shows low toxicity and safety to the human body.
Lanthanum chloride heptahydrate is white crystal. It is easily deliquescent. It is easily soluble in water, ethanol and pyridine, but insoluble in ether and benzene. Lanthanum chloride reacts directly with free phosphate to form water-insoluble lanthanum phosphate. This reaction is almost instantaneous, so the phosphorus removal effect is the fastest.
Coagulation is one of the most common and important water treatment processes, which can effectively remove turbidity and organic matter. At present, the most commonly used coagulants are simple salts and polymers of aluminum and iron series. However, aluminum salt coagulants have the disadvantages of small flocs, poor phosphorus removal effect at low temperature, and biological toxicity of residual aluminum; while iron salt coagulants have problems such as high chromaticity of effluent and strong corrosiveness. In response to the problems of the above traditional coagulants, a new and efficient lanthanum chloride coagulant product has been developed.
